Save Lighthouse Beach
SaveLighthouseBeach.Org, is a coalition of concerned individuals and beach users’ groups. The Long Island Travasuns are one of the member beach users' group in this coalition. We will be involved with SaveLighthouseBeach.Org to keep informed about the status of keeping the beach open to clothing-optional use.
Lighthouse Beach's clothing optional status in the summer of 2010 is on probation. The NPS acknowledges the historic use of Lighthouse Beach as a nude beach. And they have even added new signs this season to identify the boundaries of the two clothing optional sections.
But the risk to the beach comes from some beach users use of illegal drugs and of inappropriate sexual activity at this public beach. NPS Police has indicated that there will be zero tolerance for these illegal activities and that people will be arrested and removed from the beach! Again, this is NOT about the nudity on the beach.
We all need to self police the activities at this beach. This will ensure the continuation of its use as a nude beach. Let's not let a few people ruin it for the majority! We encourage everyone to follow the clothing-optional beach etiquette that is posted on this site.
Check the LINK on the left to "Beach Etiquette" for up to the minute status and for the current Clothing-Optional Beach Etiquette for Lighthouse Beach Fire Island.
We will post updates to status as they occur. This beach status report is current as of July, 20 2010.
